Q - We followed the map, but can't find the meeting. Where are you guys?

A - If you found Ralph's house, look just south of it and you will see a driveway leading down to an open area and a large metal workshop. There should be a few cars and probably a dog truck or two parked in the area. We try to call the meetings to order at 10:30 am, but frequently we delay slightly for the members who are still out on the trails running dogs. Come on into the metal shed closest to the road and you'll find a nice warm wood stove, a hot pot of coffee and some of the more sedentary members waiting for the meeting to start.

Q - We don't know anyone and wondered if we can attend the business part of the meeting?

A - Come on in! We welcome guests to our meetings. We don't have anything to hide and all our meetings are open to the public. If you aren't sure about getting a Siberian Husky, this is a great place to come and try one on for size. There are always dogs in and around the meeting and Siberian owners just love to talk about their dogs.

Q - Is there a dress code?

A - Yes, and it's very strict. If you aren't dressed comfortably, you're at the wrong meeting. It must be admitted that the choice spots near the wood stove fill up fast on a cold day, so dress warmly if you don't get here on time. Please remember that dog hair is inevitable and, in your coffee cup, can be counted as extra fiber in your diet.

Q - My dog isn't the best behaved. He jumps up on people with muddy paws; he howls and woos at very inopportune moments; are you sure you want us to bring him to a meeting?

A - Sounds like a typical "in-your-face" Siberian to me. Bring him in to socialize with his kind. Dogs should be leashed and under your control at all times, but we're used to having to talk over the wooing.

Q - I don't have a pure-bred Siberian Husky, but one from a shelter adoption. He looks like a Husky. Can I come to the meetings?

A - Yes, you're more than welcome. Most of us started out with a Husky from a back yard breeder, pet shop or, (gasp! horrors!) unbeknownst to us, a puppy mill. Only the very luckiest (and smartest) of us actually did our homework and found a reputable breeder to sell us that first Siberian.

Q - I don't have a dog of any kind and love the look of the Siberian Husky. Can I come to a meeting and talk to breeders?

A - Probably. I qualify that only because not all members attend all meetings and you could end up attending one that none of our breeders attended because they were home caring for puppies. That doesn't mean you won't see dogs at the meeting. We will be glad to introduce you to breeders within our club and can give you names of Siberian Husky breeders across the country. This does not mean we recommend or endorse any particular breeder. We do require that members of the club who breed Siberian Huskies follow the guidelines of the club's Code of Ethics. We may have a handle on some of the puppy mills out there, too and can at least try to steer you to someone more reputable.

Q - What if I want an adult dog. Can you recommend some way of finding an adult Siberian Husky?

A - You bet we can! We have several members active in Siberian Husky rescue. Rescue dogs are neutered, usually adult or older puppies who have been given up for adoption for any number of reasons. If you want a dog who has already been neutered and temperament tested, we've got a dog for you. If there isn't just the dog you want now, you can bet that someone will turn in just what you're looking for in the near future.
